A process step in forming ceramic "funnels" was to remove the top and bottom portions in the "green" or un-fired parts. Due to the abrasive nature of the ceramic and the "sticky" nature of the binders of the "green" ceramics it was difficult to maintain the diamond saw blades.
The high costs of diamond saw blades justified studies to lengthen the useful life of the blades.
A number of diamond blade parameters were considered: Diamond size, density, matrix composition, blade configurations, and other parameters.
The results of the study revealed the important parameters that significantly extended the life and the cutting quality of the blades.
