It is not uncommon for piping to be installed by pipe fitters using only schematic diagrams. However, there are a number of reasons why full 3D designed pipe routs can be very valuable:

1. If pipe spools are used in a "standard" assembly. A detailed pipe rout drawing allows for pipe spools to be assigned a part number and inventoried.
2. To help develop competitive piping quotes. If    the suppliers are only working from a schematic, there may be a    considerable difference in the final installations, which may make it    difficult to compare quotes.
3. In cases where the required materials are expensive, designed pipe routes can be used to optimize the costs.
4. For designs where the space is relatively limited, pre-designed pipe routs can increase the confidence of having a good installation while potentially increasing the ease of future maintenance.
5. Pre-Designed pipe routs allows for all departments to review and approve the design before installation. 

Solidworks Pipe Routing is a powerful design tool.  However, the learning curve can be relatively difficult.  If the user has a good understanding of SolidWorks and working knowledge of 3D lines,  this tutorial provides step by step instructions to help the user to setup and begin using the Pipe Routing Add-in.

The Welded Extended Library generally consists of the original Solidworks files with additions and improvements:

1. The files have been moved to a single directory for more efficient use.
2. The color and materials have been updated and improved.

4. Some sizes and parts have been added.

This MSI extended module is an "add on" for the MSI Welded library Module.  The MSI Welded library module needs to be downloaded and installed first.

At least in older versions of the Routing Add-in, Solidworks does not always "respect" and provide for the proper gasket spacing.  These MSI flanges correct these issues for a 1/8" and 3/16" gaskets.
